Kaltura: Adding a Collaborator to a Kaltura Video
Last Updated
Overview
Media owners can add additional co-editors, co-publishers, and co-viewers to their media. Adding collaborators will allow the media to be available in the collaborator's personal My Media account. Media owners can also change ownership of a video to someone else. This can be useful, for example, if the owner is leaving the organization or switching responsibilities and someone else needs to take ownership of the media.
Considerations
- Depending on what access is needed, a collaborator can be added to multiple roles. The permissions will dictate what a collaborator can do with a video.
- A Media Group can be created if you wish for several members to have access to and be able to share a video. This can be helpful when videos are used in multiple courses or by multiple users. A Media Group can own or collaborate on a video. All members of a Media Group can see, edit, and share a video. To set up a Media Group, contact the Kaltura Administrator on campus by creating an LTS Helpdesk ticket.
Roles and Permissions
If you are unsure of which role and permission level to pick from, please see the roles and permission descriptions below:
- Media Owner is the administrator of a video and is credited with the media. This is not necessarily the copyright owner of the content.
- Co-Editor(s) can edit the entry's details and metadata, trim media, replace media, edit captions, chapters, and slides. Co-editors cannot delete media or add new co-editors and co-publishers. Co-editors have access to the video analytics.
- Co-Publisher(s) can embed media within a Canvas course and share media.
- Co-Viewer(s) are only able to view media and do not have editing permissions, nor are they allowed to view unlisted entries, unless they are also co-publishers or co-editors of that entry.
Process
- First, upload the video into Kaltura/My Media.
- Collaborators can be added to a video once it is uploaded to My Media by clicking on the name of the video, selecting the "Action" dropdown, and selecting "Edit".
- Under the Collaboration tab (1), select “+ Add Collaborator” (2).
- In the Add a Collaborator pop-up, type in the name (last, first name) of the collaborator you wish to add and select the appropriate name when it appears in the search field (3). Then select “Co-editor," "Co-Publisher" and/or "Co-Viewer” (4) and select “Add” (5).
Note: The video will appear in the newly-added collaborator’s My Media. Most filters in My Media are set to alphabetical, which means the newly added video will not appear at the top of the My Media page. To find the video, search for it in My Media by typing in the name of the video or select "Sort By: Update Date - Descending".
