Overview
As part of Office 365, current students and employees at UW-Eau Claire have access to five copies of the most recent version of Microsoft Office to install on personally owned devices. At this time, the free licenses are not available for guest/retiree/emeritus accounts. The software is free and is yours to use as long as you have a current UW-Eau Claire account.

Installing Office 365 Software (PC & Mac)
- Navigate to the UWEC myapps page and sign in using your UWEC username and password.
- In the Microsoft Navigation bar on the left side of the screen, select the waffle icon and More apps.
- Under the Apps, click the Install Apps button found in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Drop down to Microsoft 365 Apps. This will take you to the My Account portal.
- In the My Account portal home page, select the Install Office option under the Office apps and devices tile. The files for installation will appear under your downloads.
NOTE: Once you select Install Office, you may be directed to the download tab in the My apps navigation toolbar. Click the Install Office button. - Once downloaded, select the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the desktop applications.
- Once Office 365 desktop applications are fully installed, a beginner tutorial will appear, offering helpful tips on how it functions. You will also be able to access all the applications included with Office without further downloads. All of the programs will download together.
- TIP: Open the Office 365 applications you will be using and save them to your taskbar (Windows) or the Dock (Mac).
- For instructions on how to pin these applications to the taskbar (Windows), click on the Applications drop-down in the "Configure the taskbar layout" section of the Customize the Taskbar in Windows guide.
- For instructions on how to save an app to the Dock (Mac), go to the "Add, remove or rearrange Dock items" section in the Use the Dock on Mac user guide.
Installing Office 365 on a Mobile Device
On a mobile device, Office 365 apps can be downloaded individually or as a bundle through the Microsoft Copilot app. The Microsoft Copilot app allows users to access, share, and create documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It also allows you to connect to your university's OneDrive.
