Biographical / Historical Note

The UW-Eau Claire Basketball team began with the opening of Eau Claire Normal School in 1916.  Eau Claire’s first prominent coach was Bill Zorn, who coached Blugold football until 1943 and continued to lead the basketball team for 40 years. Zorn led the team to conference championships in 1938, 1939, 1955 and 1956, as well as the National Intercollegiate Basketball tournament in Kansas City in 1939, 1945, 1946, 1951 and 1956.  After his retirement in 1968, Zorn was replaced by Kenneth (Ken) Anderson as head basketball coach.  The Blugolds won 14 conference titles and competed in the NAIA tournament 15 times under Anderson's management.
