Overview
Some people using Chrome or Safari will see an error when accessing Kaltura in Canvas. The message states: “It seems your browser is blocking 3rd party session cookies, which are required for the Kaltura application. To resolve this issue, please update your settings to allow 3rd party cookies.“
Third-party cookies need to be enabled to access videos or, in some cases, to use Kaltura/My Media. This is because Kaltura needs to communicate with Canvas to verify your identity and determine where you want to store your videos. If the cookies are blocked, the tools will not be able to talk to each other. For the best experience, we recommend using Chrome or Firefox.
Considerations
While this is primarily a browser privacy issue, there are some additional considerations when troubleshooting:
- Do you have any privacy extensions within your browser? Even if you enabled third-party cookies within your internet browser, the problem could be an additional extension that is blocking the Canvas/MyMedia integration.
- What operating system (i.e. iOS or Windows) are you using? Each operating system has its own privacy settings. If the browser settings are changed and the problem persists, check the privacy settings on your device.
