Setting the document language in Adobe Acrobat Pro is essential for screen readers to pronounce content correctly.

Setting Document Language with Accessibility Checker

  1. In the Tools tab, select Prepare for Accessibility
  2. Select Check for Accessibility
  3. Expand the Document Section, check if Primary Language is Failed

    Accessibility checker pane, document has five accessibility errors. Primary language is outlined in red.
  4. Right-click on Primary Language - Failed, select Fix

    Primary language option pane is shown, the fix button is selected.
  5. Choose the document language, select OK

    Set reading language pane is shown, language drop down is expanded, language is set to English.

Setting Document Language with Document Properties

  1. Select Menu
  2. Select Document Properties

    Menu pane is expanded, Document Properties option is outlined and selected.

  3. Navigate to the Advanced pane

    Document properties pane is shown, description pane is opened.

  4. Set Language to the language of the document

    Language option is expanded, English is chosen.

  5. Select OK
