Academic Monitoring Procedure

Each January, the provost, academic deans, associate vice chancellors and the administrative officer will review any program with fewer than 10 graduates in the previous year.  

Data to be considered: (all data is a five-year average)*

Number of total majorsNumber of new first year majorsNumber of graduatesNumber of students with declared minors and certificatesNumber of Liberal Education credits provided to studentsNumber of courses/credits provided as requirements in other programsNumber of courses with enrollments lower than 20 

Other factors to be considered:

Contribution of program to University Mission and Strategic Plan PrioritiesContribution of program to student learning in other programsStatus of program in relationship to other department programs

Notifications:

Departments are notified that a program has been reviewed and of the outcome of review.University Senate Executive Committee will receive a report no later than the end of March of each year including information about any programs identified for intervention in the previous three years. 

Appeal Process:

Departments that believe they have been erroneously identified as “needing development” or do not meet the enrollment targets or modification requirements at the conclusion of three years may provide a written response to the provost asking for reconsideration.  *The same data set is used to inform resource allocation decisions in the yearly allocation of any new faculty lines, and as part of the process and recommendations for possible future positions allocations associated with the regular program review process.
