The following list contains campus acronyms and terms.
- (AAC&U) Association of American Colleges and Universities – A national organization that supports liberal education and improvements to undergraduate education.
- (ADA)
- Academic Department Assistant – A staff member who provides administrative support for faculty within their department. This position is also referred to as a Department Assistant (DA).
- Americans with Disabilities Act – This federal law protects people with disabilities from discrimination.
- (ALC) Active Learning Classroom – These classrooms feature large tables/“pods” for student groups of five or six sharing a large computer monitor, plus a teaching station in the middle of the room for faculty. Every academic building on campus has at least one ALC available.
- (APC) Academic Policies Committee – The University Senate committee that oversees changes and updates to academic policies.
- (ARCC) Advising, Retention, and Career Center – Centralized support for students to help them find internships, plan their future semesters, create/edit resumes, and search for employment opportunities. (VLL 2100)
- (ASK Center) Administrative Support + Knowledge Center – The office area containing the office of: University Accounting & Accounts Payable; Budget & Resource Planning; Human Resources; Risk Management, Safety & Sustainability; Procurement & Strategic Sourcing; and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration (S 226).
- (BGC) Blugold Central – A one-stop shop for students to get help with registering for classes, understanding financial aid and paying bills, parking, and veterans services. (VLL 1108)
- (CAMPS) Campus Solutions Student Information Systems - The online portal (camps.uwec.edu) for students where they register for classes, apply for graduation, check their financial aid, and more; faculty use CampS to submit final grades and track attendance.

- (CASA) Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault – A sexual assault support service that maintains a victim centered approach; provides a safe place for people to come and talk about any issues that they may have surrounding their sexual assault, or those of someone close to them. (HHH 311C)
- (CE) Continuing Education – CE programs help community members gain new skills from community leaders; programming is available in many areas, including business, education, health care, human services, nonprofit work and speech language pathology. There are CE opportunities for adults and youth.
- (CENT) Centennial Hall – Houses the College of Education and Human Sciences, the Education for Equity and Justice, Special Education and Inclusive Practices, English, and Languages departments, and Einstein Brothers Bagels. Centennial also has several on-campus offices and resources, including the Services for Students with Disabilities office (SSD), the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE), and the Tutoring Center.
- Center for EDI Training, Development and Education – The Center for EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Training, Development and Education is a cornerstone for cultural competency training here at UW-Eau Claire and within the greater Eau Claire region. The center provides comprehensive training that aims to prepare a culturally competent workforce and a student body prepared to thrive in an increasingly global society.
- Center for Service-Learning – Service-Learning is an opportunity for students at UW-Eau Claire to give back to the local community, or their home community. It provides a way to learn skills, investigate careers, and build a personal network. Service-Learning makes education a collaborative effort; students benefit society by exercising the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. (VLL 2100)
- (CETL) Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning – Provides programming, support, and one-on-one consultation with faculty relating to teaching, curriculum development, EDI, and supporting students in the classroom. (VLL 1142)
- (CIE) Center for International Education – Office that helps students find and complete study abroad opportunities, as well as supporting international students. (S 3)
- (DII) Domestic Intercultural Immersion – Travel and education experiences for students within the United States that focus on cultures, populations, and environments.
- (FLIES) Faculty-Led Immersion Experience/ (FLIIE) Faculty-Led International Immersion Experiences – Faculty-led student travel and education experiences around the world; students take a UW-Eau Claire course taught by our faculty while abroad, giving them an opportunity to learn firsthand about issues and themes discussed in the course.
- (CIGE) Council on Internationalization and Global Engagement – Assists UW-Eau Claire in preparing students, faculty, and staff for active, informed and ethical participation in a pluralistic and globally interdependent world through meaningful learning opportunities on and off-campus.

- (CRRJ) Center for Racial and Restorative Justice – The newly established Center for Racial and Restorative Justice, a clearinghouse for research, scholarship, advocacy and action, aims to educate students and the greater Eau Claire community about the history of race in America and the barriers to upward mobility for people of color in areas such as education, criminal justice, health care, commerce and housing.
- (CWE) Center for Writing Excellence – One-on-one help for students looking to improve their writing; students can get help on course assignments, resumes, and more, and faculty can request a visit to their class from a CWE writing assistant. The CWE has two main locations, 2104 Centennial Hall and 2003A McIntyre Library.
- (DA) Department Assistant – A staff member who provides administrative support for faculty within their department. Formerly referred to as an Academic Department Associate (ADA).
- (Davies) W.R. Davies Student Center – The lower-campus student union; houses the US Bank branch and Blugold Card office, the Service Center, Marketplace (the main food option of lower campus), Dulaney Inn (a buffet-style restaurant), The Cabin (one of several coffee shop and performance spaces), the bookstore and textbook rental, the Activities, Involvement, and Leadership (AIL) office, our on-campus movie theater, ballroom space, and meeting spaces for large and small events.
- (DEP/PEP) Departmental/Program Evaluation Plan – Describes the procedures and criteria used by a department/program in reviewing faculty performance for reappointment, tenure, promotion in rank, salary adjustment, and post-tenure review.
- Desk Copy – A complimentary teacher version of a textbook that an instructor plans to use for a course.
- (DPC) Department Personnel Committee – Committee that oversees the faculty evaluation within a department.
- (ECLIPSE) Early Childhood Literacy Intervention Program Services and Evaluation – ECLIPSE is an AmeriCorps program that focuses on early childhood literacy in Eau Claire and Altoona. Educational focus areas include language, emergent reading & writing, socialization, and interaction. ECLIPSE differentiates from other literacy programs because we work from a one-on-one model tailored to individual needs, preparing each child for lifelong learning, while also embracing the different paces at which children learn to foster continual growth in education. Six sites in and around Eau Claire are served by ECLIPSE. (CENT 3015)
- (EDI) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – UW-Eau Claire has laid out specific goals relating to the recruitment and retention of students and faculty from marginalized groups; there are professional development sessions specifically relating to EDI and how faculty can support members of our campus community.
- (EFORMS) Electronic Forms in BP Logix – eForms are electronic forms used for online data submission and requests.
- (EMERITI) Emeritus & Retiree Accounts – emeritus/emerita status is an honorary designation conferred upon UW-Eau Claire retirees to recognize their contributions and accomplishments over their university careers. It is available to faculty, academic staff and classified staff provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
- (FASRAP) Faculty and Academic Staff Rules and Procedures – The official policies and guidelines governing faculty and academic staff.
- (FASTER) Faculty and Staff Training and Employment Resources – Website that provides access to information about many aspects of campus life, from employee benefits to campus parking to entertainment at UW-Eau Claire.
- (WC) Flesch Family Welcome Center – The Flesch Family Welcome Center houses UW-Eau Claire’s Admissions Office as well as the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association and UW-Eau Claire Foundation operations. It is located on Roosevelt Ave.
- (FYE) First Year Experience – This program is meant to help students transition successfully into college life. FYE encourages students not only with special course sections and online learning modules but also campus events.
- (FYO) First Year Only – Course sections only enroll freshmen students and often fulfill a liberal education requirement. FYO courses have both a faculty instructor and a student mentor to assist students throughout the course.
- (GE) General Education – The core classes taken by students before the 2016-2017 academic year, now replaced by the Liberal Education Core.
- (GSRC) Gender & Sexuality Resource Center – The Gender & Sexuality Resource Center staff work tirelessly to ensure your time at UW-Eau Claire exceeds all expectations. They offer an extensive, award-winning programmatic array and are committed to your success. They understand that everyone enters college with vastly different points of view and lived experiences. The GSRC staff work to challenge queer students to examine their whiteness, take stock of their privilege, speak truth to power, and work toward inclusion of all queer people. (Davies 220M)
- (HDC) Human Development Center – An interprofessional program that provides behavioral health and educational support services to individuals, families, and schools from western Wisconsin. The HDC is a unique program in that we offer high impact and meaningful clinical training experiences to UWEC undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines, while, at the same time, offer high quality clinical services to the community. - (Health Careers Center) William J. and Marian A. Klish Health Careers Center – A specialized career center that helps assist students in exploring health careers, building effective skills and tools for career development, and preparing for admission into health professional programs. (S 30)
- (HFA) Haas Fine Arts Center – Located across the Chippewa River; houses the Music and Theatre Arts and Art and Design departments, as well as several performance spaces.
- (HHH) Hibbard Humanities Hall – Houses the American Indian Studies, Communication and Journalism, History, Mathematics, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology departments.
- (HLC) Higher Learning Commission – An independent corporation that was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. HLC accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the United States.
- (HSS) Human Sciences and Services Building – Located across the Chippewa River; houses the Social Work and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences departments, as well as the Human Development Center.
- (HT) Hilltop Center – The upper-campus student union; has group exercise space, the Recreation office, the (EAC) Environmental Adventure Center, the Hilltop Café (main dining option for on-campus students), and general hangout space.
- (SharePoint) Intranet – The UW-Eau Claire Intranet is hosted via Microsoft SharePoint and is the designated digital workspace for our university's colleges, departments, units, and groups. SharePoint is an online collaboration tool that allows its users to easily create web pages, document repositories, custom lists, and a number of other applications that serves the needs of intended audiences.
- (LE) Liberal Education – The core classes students must take to graduate from UW-Eau Claire; our liberal education learning goals are Knowledge, Skills, Responsibility, Integration, and Service Learning. The liberal education portion of the graduation requirement is a minimum of 36 credit hours and 30 hours of service learning.
- (LTS) Learning and Technology Services – Provides technology support and troubleshooting across campus. Also has the Help Desk, which provides technology help for students, faculty, and staff. (VLL 1106)
- (MCCS) Menard Center for Constitutional Studies – The mission of the non-partisan Menard Center for Constitutional Studies (MCCS) is to promote research, education and community outreach on matters related to the United States Constitution and the Wisconsin Constitution. (HHH 401)
- (LIB) McIntyre Library – Five floors of print material, as well as the University archives, equipment checkout, research help, a podcast recording studio, and the Blugold Makerspace.
- (MCPHEE) McPhee & Olson Complex – The only academic building on upper campus; houses the Kinesiology department, as well as a workout space, pool, track, and athletic events.
- (MSS) Multicultural Student Service Office – Supports students of color on campus via advising, advocacy, and outreach; hosts many on-campus events that are open for all students. (CENT 1106)

- (P) Phillips Hall – Houses the Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geography and Anthropology, Geology, Material Science and Biomedical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy departments.
- (Pablo) Pablo Center at the Confluence – Located on the banks of the Chippewa River in the heart of downtown Eau Claire. This building is a state-of-the-art venue for visiting shows and provides new rehearsal, teaching, and performance space for students in the Music + Theatre Arts program at UW-Eau Claire.
- (PARF) Personnel Action Requests Forms – Forms used in the hire of new faculty and staff.
- (PD) Professional Development – CETL and other campus offices host many professional development opportunities for faculty throughout the year; there is also a professional development day for University Staff every summer.

- (S) Schofield Hall – The oldest building on campus; houses the Chancellor’s Office, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), the Center for International Education (CIE), the Administrative Support and Knowledge Center (ASK), and Learning and Technology Services (LTS), and the Schofield Auditorium.
- (SONNENTAG) The Sonnentag Center - The event center and fieldhouse design is highly versatile and will accommodate multiple types of events and activities, including serving as a home for UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s basketball games and other athletics tournaments, large indoor concerts and other entertainment or sports events.
- (SHOPUW) ShopUW+ Essentials – Training and resources to help you use the new ShopUW+ purchasing and payables platform.
- (SSS) Schneider Hall – Houses the College of Business, Economics department, and the McNair program office.
- (SSD) Services for Students with Disabilities – Provides support for students on campus in order to ensure equal access to university activities and services. The SSD office is located at 2106 Centennial Hall.
- (SSS) Student Support Services – Funded by a federal TRIO grant; provides access to a wide range of academic assistance for its 300 student participants. SSS offers its students a variety of supplemental services which include academic advising, tutoring, career counseling, peer mentoring, financial planning assistance, graduate school preparation, and grant aid. - (TAM) Talent Acquisition Manager – The system used by Human Resources and search committees in the hire of new faculty and staff.
- (TER) Expense Reimbursement – TER forms are used to reimburse employees, students, and guests for university-related out-of-pocket business expenses. Travel expense reimbursements are now completed in Workday.
- (UB) Upward Bound – A federally-funded TRIO program dedicated to the preparation for, admission to, and successful completion of a college degree for eligible first-generation and/or low-income high school students. Through academic support, study group sessions, leadership workshops, financial assistance and more, we help to ensure success for students who may otherwise fall through the cracks. (HFA 281)
- (UDOIT) Universal Design Online Inspection Tool – A Canvas course accessibility checker that guides instructors in editing and remedying technical accessibility concerns in courses. UDOIT scans course content, identifies accessibility issues, and helps guide instructors through making the changes needed using Universal Design principles. Originally created by the University of Central Florida, the tool identifies 20+ prominent accessibility concerns and walks instructors through making those changes.
- (ULEC) University Liberal Education Committee – Reviews courses and learning outcomes rubrics for the UWEC Liberal Education core and makes recommendations to the University Senate and the Academic Policies Committee.
- (UWS) University of Wisconsin System is now referred to as the Universities of Wisconsin.
- (VLL) Vicki Lord Larson Hall – Previously named the Old Library; connects Schofield Hall and McIntyre Library; houses the Advising, Retention, and Career Center (ARCC), Counseling Services, Blugold Central, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), the LTS Help Desk, and LTS Training.
