Enhanced Rubrics retain the core attributes of classic rubrics with key changes to creation, grading behavior, draft handling, and new features such as CSV import and student self-assessment. This guide covers the changes from classic to enhanced.
Enable
This will be automatically enabled on 5/21/26 as the default for all courses after grades are due.
- Go to the Settings button of the course.
- Click the Feature Options tab and change Enhanced Rubrics to Enabled.
Create
The creation process is similar to classic, with the following enhancements:

- Reorder Criteria via drag and drop or the three dots icon.

- Use the + icon to duplicate a criterion.
Link to Assignment or Discussion
Linking to enhanced rubrics is the same as classic, with the following additions.
- Different view on assignments; same view for discussions.
- Can Enable self assessment for assignments, not discussions. Students see Self-Assess option after submitting their first attempt. Teachers can toggle it on and off in SpeedGrader.

Grade
- Opens ready for grading.
- New view options: Traditional, Horizontal, and Vertical.
- Ratings descriptions automatically display; still need to click into the Criteria field.
- Toggle on and off selections.
Copilot Assistance
Use Copilot to help create rubrics and/or to get them into the correct format for import.
