Grade Settings

Last Updated

You can change the following in the Settings tab of your courses.

Add Grade Scheme

Most university-level courses do not use Canvas’s default grading scale. UWEC has added two standard grade schemes to Canvas. If your department uses a different scale, email Tiffany Lewis (lewistg@uwec.edu) to have it added.

  1. Go to the Settings button of your course.
  2. Select the Enable course grading scheme checkbox on the Course Details tab.
  3. Select the applicable scheme from the drop-down menu.

NOTE: After you select a scheme, click View to see the mathematical values. You can create a new scheme if yours differs from the available options.
  4. Click Update Course Details.

Turn Off Grade Distribution Graphs

To promote inclusive practices, it’s recommended to hide grade distribution graphs from students. These graphs show the highest, lowest, and mean scores for each assignment. Toggling off this setting for students will not impact your ability as an instructor to see course analytics.

  1. Go to the Settings button of your course.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Course Details tab.
  3. Select the Hide grade distribution graphs from students checkbox.
  4. Click Update Course Details.
