Overview
This guide demonstrates how to submit a video to a Canvas Assignment using the My Media integration. These instructions follow the process of creating the video using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder, uploading the video into My Media, and embedding the video into the text entry option for a Canvas Assignment.
Considerations
- Use Chrome or Firefox as a recommended browser when creating videos using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder.
- While this guide focuses on using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder, you do have the option to use other video creation tools. Just know the process for uploading and sharing the video will be different.
Steps for submitting a video to a Canvas Assignment
1. Log into Canvas and navigate to the course and Canvas Assignment.
2. In the Canvas Assignment, select the Submit Assignment button and choose the Text Entry option.
3. Access the Kaltura Webcam Recorder found under the My Media button located in the Rich Content Editor.
Note: In the Rich Content Editor, click the My Media icon to access your My Media repository and the Kaltura Webcam Recorder. If you are working on a smaller screen, select the three dots to access the My Media icon.
4. Record your video using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder found under the +Add New Button.
5. When you are done recording, you can do the following:
- To watch your video, select the play button in the video player.
- To record again, select the Record Again button.
- To upload (save) and embed the video, select the Use This button.
6. Rename and upload the video to My Media. NOTE: The upload is complete when you see a green “Upload Completed!” Message.
TIP: Rename the video with a consistent naming convention so it is easy to find later. We recommend a naming convention like the Course code Term and assignment name (i.e. CETL 101 Fall25 Introduction).
6. Select the Save and Embed button.
NOTE: Your video will appear within the Text Entry box within the assignment.
7. Select the Submit Assignment button and watch the confetti fly.
