Last Updated

Overview

This guide demonstrates how to create a video reply using the My Media integration within a Canvas Discussion.  These instructions follow the process of creating the video using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder, uploading the video into My Media, and embedding the video into a discussion post/reply.

Considerations

Steps for submitting a video to a Canvas Discussion

  1. Log in to Canvas and navigate to the course and Canvas Discussion post.
  2. After you have read the discussion post requirements, select Reply.

Example of an introductory discussion post used in a course. The reply button is located in the bottom left corner under the post.

  1. Under the “Write a reply” text box, select the My Media integration button (looks like a firework) to access the Kaltura Webcam Recorder.

Note: In the Rich Content Editor, click the My Media icon to access your My Media repository and the Kaltura Webcam Recorder. If you are working on a smaller screen, select the three dots to access the My Media icon.

Select the My Media integration button found in the Rich Content Editor.

  1. Record your video using the Kaltura Webcam Recorder found under the +Add New Button

The +Add New button is located in the right corner of the My Media integration pop up. Drop down to Webcam Recorder to access the recorder.

  1. When you are done recording, you can do the following:
  1.   Rename and upload the video to My Media.

NOTE: The upload is complete when you see a green “Upload Completed!” Message.

TIP: Rename the video with a consistent naming convention so it is easy to find later. We recommend a naming convention like the Course code Term and Assignment name (i.e. CETL 101 Fall25 Introduction).

Under details, change the name of the video using the textbox provided and select the ave and Embed button located in the top right corner of the screen.

  1.  Select the Save and Embed button

NOTE: Your video will appear within the Text Entry box within the discussion reply. Depending on the length of your video, it may take time to render. It will automatically update to a thumbnail once it is complete.
