Kaltura: V2 Player Warning Icon and Transition to V7 Player

Last Updated

Overview

Kaltura is the video portal available to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire instructors, students, and staff. This article provides information regarding the end of support for the V2 video player and how to transition to the V7 video player.

V2 Player Warning Indicator

The warning icon will appear on all videos using the Kaltura V2 Player. As of December 30, 2024, Kaltura is discontinuing support for this player, which means updates and technical support will no longer be available. The indicator serves as a reminder to instructors to update course videos and Kaltura Quizzes to the V7 player to avoid potential performance issues in the future. While the V2 player will continue to work for the foreseeable future, the warning icon is meant to help you identify which videos will need to be upgraded.
The Warning Icon, a red, triangular symbol, will appear in the upper left corner of the V2 player. Clicking on the icon will take you to a separate Universities of Wisconsin KnowledgeBase article with instructions.

Actions to take

To ensure optimal video performance,  instructors and staff who share Kaltura videos are encouraged to upgrade course videos to the V7 player. Sharing a video can include embedding a Kaltura video player in a Canvas course or sharing a video using a URL. An embedded video will appear within a Canvas element, such as a page, announcement, assignment, discussion, or quiz, within a video player that can be played within Canvas.
