Respondus LockDown Browser & Monitor

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser that prevents students from opening other windows during an exam. Respondus Monitor adds webcam-based proctoring, recording students during the exam, and flagging suspicious events for instructors to review later.

Important Considerations

Enable in Canvas

  1. Access your course and click the Settings button.
  2. Click Navigation along the top.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, click the three dots next to Respondus LockDown Browser, and select Enable.
  4. Scroll down and click Save.
  5. Refer to the Preparing a Quiz section of the Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitor – Quick Start Guide Canvas.

Screen Reader Accommodations

  1. Edit the quiz and create a hyperlink to NaturalReader (https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/) in the instructions area or first question.
  2. Go to the Respondus LockDown Browser link in the navigation bar.
  3. Click the arrow next to the name of the test and select Settings.
  4. Click Advanced Settings > Allow access to specific external web domains checkbox > and enter naturalreaders.com in the box.
  5. Click the Save + Close button.
    TIP: If students use other screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), add their domains as needed.
