Security: Administrative Rights Process

UW-Eau Claire does not grant users administrative rights to campus owned devices as best practice. There are several reasons for this, but the two most important are:

  1. To ensure that all free, personally purchased, or campus purchased software installed on UWEC devices has been reviewed and approved by both LTS and Procurement prior to purchase and installation. This is necessary to not only protect campus from legal risk and financial risks, but you personally as well.
  2. To protect the campus IT infrastructure and users from information security threats that can leverage elevated user rights.

Administrative rights on UWEC owned devices is also governed by UW Information Security Policy.
