This article provides step-by-step guidance on how to access keys using the University’s electronic lockbox system.
The electronic lockbox securely stores physical keys and grants access only to users who have been authorized by department managers or administrators. Through a combination of PIN authentication and university-issued credentials, users can retrieve and return assigned keys efficiently while ensuring accountability and security.
Step 1: Retrieve Your Electronic Lockbox PIN
To access your electronic lockbox PIN:
-
Visit mykeypin.uwec.edu from a device connected to the UWEC network.
-
Log in with your university credentials.
By default, you will be assigned a randomly generated PIN. If desired, you can update your PIN directly on the site. Please note that any changes may take up to one hour to fully propagate across the system.
Step 2: Log In to the Electronic Lockbox
To access the Electronic Lockbox, you must authenticate using either:
-
A valid physical credential (e.g., mobile credential or Blugold Card) and your PIN, or
-
Your seven-digit Blugold ID number and your PIN.
Note: The system can only store one physical credential per user. If you have a mobile credential on your phone, that credential is stored by default and is the only physical credential you may use at the lockbox. If you do not have a mobile credential, your Blugold Card can be used at the lockbox.
Option 1: Using a Credential
-
Present your credential to the card reader located below the touchscreen on the cabinet. The system will provide audible and visual feedback once your credential is read.
-
If you are authorized, the touchscreen will prompt you to enter your PIN.
-
Enter your PIN and touch the green checkmark to proceed.
Option 2: Using Your Blugold ID Number
-
On the touchscreen, enter your seven-digit Blugold ID number and touch the return arrow.
-
If you are authorized, the touchscreen will prompt you to enter your PIN.
-
Enter your PIN and tap the green checkmark to continue.

Step 3: Accessing Keys from the Electronic Lockbox
Once logged in, the touchscreen will display the key fobs you are authorized to access. These will appear green on the screen.
Selecting a Key Fob
-
On the touchscreen, touch the fob number you want to remove. The system will check for any curfew (a required return time) associated with the fob. If a curfew is set, it will be displayed on the screen. You must acknowledge the return time to proceed.
-
Once confirmed, you may remove the fob from the lockbox.
-
After retrieving your keys, close the cabinet door. This will automatically log you out of the system. You will receive an email detailing the keys you removed from the lockbox.

Step 4: Returning Keys
To return your keys, log in to the system using the instructions provided in Step 2.
Once the cabinet opens:
